Abstract
Recent efforts to improve the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy have concentrated on endovaginal and duplex Doppler techniques. In previous studies, endovaginal Doppler flow imaging was extremely useful in diagnosis of ectopic pregnancies because
luteal
cysts may often appear complex and simulate adnexal masses.
The purpose of this study was to see if Doppler velocity measurements could aid in the positive diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy when no gestational sac can be seen in the adnexa or exophytic luteal cysts can be seen.
We performed transvaginal pulsed Doppler ultrasound and determined resistance index from waveform of ectopic masses and corpora lutea in 52 women of ectopic pregnancies with were confirmed by operations from skip 5 to 12 weeks.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN there were no statistically significant differences in the resistance index of the blood flow between ectopic masses and corpora lutea according to the skip periods, levels of ¥â-hCG and status of ectopic masses. And the values of RI did not
change
with skip weeks.
In conclusion, this study could not differentiate ectopic masses from corpora lutea by RI. But using transvaginal Doppler ultrasound and additional ¥â-hCG analysis, it is possible to obtained important data which can help clinicians to
differentiate
ectopic masses and corpora lutea at the earliest possible stage.
